9/25/2023 - Week Ten - Give me a lesson then
This week's been wild... and not in a good way.
So this week we had l transfers and Elder Carr and I are staying, but our car isn't ☹️. In other transfer news, our district is almost entirely the same which is crazy, we only had one companionship add a Greenie (Elder Stewart) and become a trio. (And Elder Stevenson is our DL now because handling two greenies and being DL would not be fun for Elder Lee).
We also went on exchanges this week after our district counsel. I got to go to the Lakeside Park area with Elder Lee and Grant, and coincidently helped out with a lesson with the other two Elders in our district, Elders Stevenson and Hartvigsen. The lesson even went well too, which is a plus. While we were on exchanges not too much happened. We got to see that the Lakeside Park Elders have an apartment literally twice the size of ours, which is cool.
We've spent a lot of our week just biking around trying to find the best places to find people who are interested. It's been not very fun but at least my legs are gonna be getting stronger soon.
The only really notable thing that happened this week was José was baptized in the Spanish group of our ward. The Spanish Elders have been working with him for a while so it was really cool to see him be baptized and confirmed. We also heard from some of the members of the ward that he said he feels like part of a family for the first time which is awesome. He's a real stud and it was super cool to see him progress and be baptized while we've been here. I even understood most of the baptism and confirmation program even though it was entirely in Spanish, which made me feel good.
We also had 2 separate people give us the 'ol "teach me a lesson then 😤" when we knocked on their door. It's one of my least favorite things to hear people say because they rarely want to listen and just want to bash or just verbally assault you. One dude that asked for a lesson was very drunk at the time and wouldn't let Elder Carr talk at all. He thought we were under-cover cops and didn't believe we were Church people. He said that nobody asks people to Church without wanting something extra so we just kinda told him that the only thing we wanted was for him to come to Church with us. Our convo with him was wild because he wouldn't let Elder Carr talk so I had to defuse everything and get us out of there. At one point he ducked behind a car and we thought he was gonna pull a gun on us (coincidently the car had a bullet hole in the door), but he didn't so that was good. The other person that very badly wanted a lesson stopped us as we were biking away and then started verbally abusing and swearing at Elder Carr which was not cool. Needless to say, when people say they want a lesson, they don't always want a lesson.
The little miracle for this week: we ran to a Taco truck right as they were closing, but they said they would take our order and when we got our tacos they said we could have them for free which made me really happy. I needed a Taco and the Taco truck provided. God is good.
I also crashed my bike for the first time this week. It wasn't bad, but I ran into a telephone pole after getting my bike caught in a rain drain. Not fun, but I'm not hurt so that's best case.
Sorry for the shorter Email this week. I didn't think much happened this week. I'll end with some pretty awesome conference talks that I had recommended to me this week for y'all to read in preparation for General Conference this week.
"Broken Things to Mend" - Jeffery R Holland
"Lord, I Believe" - Jeffery R Holland
"One in Christ" - D. Todd Christofferson
These talks are absolutely awesome and I hope you can get around to reading some of them.
Love you all,
Elder Hansen
