6/24/2024 - Week 49 - Adios McGuires, Buenas Rasmussens
Que lo que, mis cabras!
This week has been yet another wild one. We had a stellar week and found a ton of really cool people, had our zone conference, and today my new Mission President and his wife came to the mission!!
We found some more friends of the people we have been teaching (a lot of Nicaragüenses in the house) and we started to teach them as well! They're very nice and will just get us soda or Juice whenever we stop by. They also came to church and absolutely loved it! They told us to come by again this week for sure (which is really good cuz we weren't sure how committed they would be).
We had some really good service at two different tiendas this week! We stacked some ramen about 18ft to the ceiling because apparently ramen is their big seller? Idk, but it was crazy and I only thought it was gonna fall and kill us a few times.
We had our last Zone Conference with the McGuires and I finally got my Spanish Tags so now the people we contact can finally read the church name in their native language!
We had a rough day on Friday because all of our lessons fell through, but we kept strong and in the last 10 minutes of the day, we found 3 new friends to teach! I also held some solid conversations in Spanish that I wasn't completely lost in!
There was a baptism for a 9 year old in our Branch from the other Elders we share the Branch with, and one of our friends was able to come! He told us that he is looking for peace and he saw peace in the eyes of the members there! The English Elders also had a baptism and hour later, so things are poppin here in Ohio.
Sunday was the coolest though! All of our new members came to church (which is crazy because they all have wild work schedules and usually we're lucky to get half of them there on any given Sunday)! We also ran into the coolest Guatemalan couple in the trailer parks next to the church. I'm usually hesitant to find in trailer parks (because it usually doesn't end in a whole ton of wonderful experiences) but this was wild! The Husband told us to come inside and share a message and as soon as we sat down he started telling us how he had prayed last night and asked God to give him a sign/ be lead to the path to come closer to God, then he had a dream where he was guided out of murky water into clear water by two men in white shirts, then we stopped by their house, and many, many times, he told us that we were his guides to come closer to God! It's not everyday that someone has a dream about you helping them come closer to Jesus Christ, but that's exactly what we do! So we very briefly talked about baptism and they were both soooooooo down and neither of them had been baptized before (in any church)! We also had a lesson with one of our new members and she brought us 9 donuts and some Coconut Milk and then was apologizing because (apparently) she usually does more for the missionaries in the lessons! She is so cool too! She's the only member in her family and just is a silent powerhouse in the Gospel! We also got in contact with a referral who said he wanted to learn more about the Trinity and what we understand about it, but it turns out that he believes the same exact thing as us (ya know 3 different people united in purpose) so that was a major relief since I didn't want to get bashed!
Spiritual Thought:
At Zone Conference a new missionary came up to the pulpit to share his testimony of the Plan of Salvation and it was soooooo powerful. He's only been out for 3 weeks, and in those few weeks he's been away from home, his mom had passed away from a disease. That is an incredibly tragic moment for him of course and we could all feel it, but he really showed how a real knowledge of the Plan of Salvation brings so much peace despite those tragic moments. Hearing him talk about his knowledge that even though his Mom is gone, he is where he needs to be and doing what he needs to be doing was very powerful to all of us and we were able to really show him the love that he needs. He's a stud for real.
