12/11/2023 - Week 21 - IYKYK

Howdy Friends!

This week has been one of the weeks I've ever had.

For the Highlights:
•We had service at the food pantry again and we spent the first day sorting Onions and potatoes and then on Thursday it was packed and we were helping people get their food orders out to their car!
•We had the most success while knocking doors??? It's usually not a very effective way of finding people who are interested in learning more about the Gospel, but we ran into quite a few people who were interested while just knocking on doors. 🚪
•Our new Ward Mission Leader invited us over for some authentic Kentucky Fried Chicken, some creamy mashed taters, homemade cake and some Graeters ice cream! Twas delicious
•We stopped by a lot of members of the Ward and we were building that ward trust 💪😤
•Carol got us the soda and candy she promised us last week and we talked for a while
•We pulled up alongside some 20-something year old dudes who were head-banging in the car next to us. So naturally we joined in and they got super hyped and one of them pulled out a glock from his glove box and started waving it around! It was super funny and just so random.

Spiritual thought:
We had a talk today in Sacrament meeting about the Two Great Commandments. Now these are some important ones. In Mark 12 we get a really good summary of what those two commandments are:

30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Now, there really isn't all that much to this right? It's just a pretty straight forward set of commandments: love God, love your neighbor. That's always what I've gotten out of it, but a Brother in our Ward pointed out in his talk that it doesn't just say "love thy neighbor" but it says "love thy neighbor as thyself." So loving ourselves is a commandment, and one of the most important ones (Great Commandment 2 part b if you wanna think about it that way). This really stood out to me because I've always struggled with loving myself and having good self-talk that isn't degrading. Now this is important because loving yourself is just as important as loving others. Don't be your own greatest bully. Know that you are loved by your Father in Heaven and many, many others around you. So please, love yourself. If you need help loving yourself, reach out to your family and to God and they will help you out.

Love y'all (so love yourself)
