9/4/2023 - Week Seven - Conference (zone), Cancellations, & Cookies

Hey everyone,

This week's been much more relaxed than the past few ones. I feel like I'm starting to get into a little bit of a rhythm but I'm still working on a lot right now.

Tuesday last week was pretty cool. I had my first Zone Conference and it was super long, but really good overall! We were there for 8 hours - which is way too long - but it was a very spiritual experience. President had us all read President Nelson's talk about being Peacemakers from last conference and to write a short talk on it, and when we got there, he just started calling people to share the talk they prepared. I didn't end up being called on, but I was stressed about it the entire time. After that we helped a family that is moving out of the ward get everything prepped and into their moving truck and they gave us pizza which was very cool! I also managed to cut open my thumb by getting it jammed between the corner of a door frame and a very heavy couch my comp and I were moving, not my brightest moment so far.

On Wednesday, I had my first Bible basher!!!! She was probably about 20-something and I don't want to be rude to her, but she really wasn't all that good at it. Bible bashing is a waste of time so we didn't spend too much time with her and tried to get outta there and leave a pass along card with her so she could do some research for herself if she wanted to.  We also had a dinner appointment scheduled with the Stake Patriarch that night and when we went to the restaurant to wait for him to get there, we found out that he had called the Spanish Elders by accident trying to confirm with us, and they cancelled our dinner appointment. Thanks a lot Spanish Elders.

Friday we had an actual miracle happen. Earlier this week Elder Carr got emailed a gift card to Crumbl cookie from one of his friends back home, but we weren't able to open it because our phones are so heavily restricted. So we decided to head to the Crumbl to see if we could figure something out (during our lunch time of course). When we got there we asked the cashier and he said he didn't know what to do and then he grabbed his Boss. So the boss is trying to help us out and just randomly asked us "are you guys the Mormons?" So we said yeah we are, and he hit us with the "So you guys have multiple wives and stuff like that?" And we were shocked and started trying to say "no, we don't do that" when he started busting up laughing. Turns out he was the 1st counselor in the neighboring ward and was just messing with us. He gave us some free cookies and a gift card which was awesome of him. Very grateful for that man, even if he did prank us a bit.

The last super cool thing that happened this week is we met with Doneshiah's friend Makiya and started teaching her the lessons. We were very tired for her lesson because it was late, but we did pretty well and she seems very interested (which is a rare thing). We called her later in the week and when we called her she said she was listening to a conference talk by President Nelson, which is crazy because we didn't even talk about Conference talks with her or ask her to listen to a specific one. She also told us that talking with us had already made her life better in a variety of ways, which was nice to hear after having not a lot of success this week. She also wants a Book of Mormon and is planning on coming to the Ward Picnic which is amazing!

Quote of the Week:
"Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence"
-Vince Lombardi

This quote came up during Zone Conference and it really is a great message that can be applied to everything in life. We will never be absolutely perfect at anything we do. We will make mistakes, mess up, and at times straight up fail. But as long as we don't let that keep us down and we keep going on chasing perfection, we can become the best we possibly can be. That's all we really can do, keep going forward trying to be perfect, and eventually we will become excellent as long we have the faith and determination to allow ourselves to become excellent.

That all for this week.
Adiós,
Elder Hansen
