10/14/2024 - Week 65 - I'm a barber now I guess?

Buen día hermanos y hermanas 

We had a pretty amazing week here in the Miami River branch! 

Unfortunately, the week started pretty lame because I had a headache (a consistent theme of my mission) so it was not super fun going out and talking in my second language all day, but boy did we do it. 

We had a pretty cool District Council in Cincinnati and had a lesson with our friends Rodbim and Wayner about temples which was bastante chido (pretty cool).

We had exchanges with the other Miami River elders (My last companion and his greenie) and had some awesome member meals with some of our GOATed members. 

We taught some Dominican friends on Friday and they were party Catholic but also Buddhist and Islamic, so it was a pretty confusing lesson to navigate (also Dominicans barely speak the same Spanish as everyone else so it's nearly impossible to understand everything they say). Afterwards, they fed us some of the best food I've had called La Bandera!

We had a ton of friends come to English Class this week and we even gave some of them a tour of the church afterwards!

We taught our friends Rodbim and Oscar about the Word of Wisdom and I've never seen someone so ready to change at the testimonies of 2 teenagers that the Word of Wisdom will bless their lives! 

Sunday was amazing! We had 9 of our friends come to church and we were surprised by our Branch President asking us to each give a 5 minute talk on conference (light work 💪) which ended up being closer to 2 because we were running out of time.
Also, at the end of the day we had another lesson with Rodbim, Oscar, and Wayner and we taught them all the doctrine of Christ and put them on date to be baptized November 16th! 

This week was pretty amazing! We superseded all of the goals we set so we have been super stoked about that!

Weird stuff:
- met a Cuban that looked exactly like Nick Jonas
- tried Cinnabon flavored Mrs Butterworth's syrup and it tastes like only a little better than I expected (and expectations were low)
- my electronic toothbrush actually blew-up while it was charging so I had to get a new one (thanks mom!) and the Apartment smelled quite funky for a bit
- we helped a lady apply to work at Chipotle while in the middle of Goodwill (that counts as service right? Right?)
- I got stuck behind 3 different trains in the same day
- I cut 3 different Elders hair during the week, so I'm the unofficial official barber of the mission now (I also got a Taco Bell value box as payment so I think that'll be the standard rate)

Today we have our district activity and we'll be going to the Cincinnati Zoo (RIP Harambe) so I will be 100% available to respond to emails fairly quickly because I've already been 2 times and not much changes with zoos...

Good morning Brothers and Sisters, it feels good to see all of you one last time before I head out on my mission. I’d like to start today by sharing some of the insights I have had while doing the online portion of my MTC training. My companion for all of my MTC training is Elder Sainsbury who just graduated from Rocky Mountain this year and someone I deeply respect. I am extremely grateful for the fact that my companion is someone I know at least a little bit and can get along with easily. 10/9/2023 - Week 12 - Carr vs. Car

Whats up y'all? This week's been a roller coaster of just crazy cool and crazy weird things happening. I'll start with the title story, which isn't that funny, but it made for the best title in my opinion. So, it's no secret that Elder Carr is an adrenaline junkie and when we go down this one big hill back to our apartment, he loves to just go as fast as he can down the road. Unfortunately, on Saturday night this week when we were about halfway down the hill (going very fast for bikes) a car decided to turn left right as Elder Carr was going through the intersection (we had the right of way) and Elder Carr trying to not get hit smoothly drifted his bike for about .3 seconds until he flew over his handlebars right in front of the car turning left. Luckily, the car stopped in time so he wasn't run over, but he did rip his pants. So technically the Carr v car fight night ended in a draw, but luckily no one was hurt too bad. 7/15/2024 - Week 52 - Transfers + Baleada = Great Week

Wowza, so much stuff happened this week. I'm still gonna try to keep this email pretty brief so you don't have to take a nap halfway through it. This week we had a ton of member meals with members from a lot of different countries so we got to try a ton of different kinds of foods! Some of the best was some Guatemalan spaghetti and fried chicken (with tortillas of course), some amazing tacos from the familia Escobedo (plus cake and they sang me happy birthday because I had a birthday since they fed us last? I'm still not too sure what that's about but they're amazing), some world famous Nicaragüense BALEADA with the familia Amador, and lastly some Chicken Noodle Soup with our new member Yenni and her family! It was awesome to see the dedication and sacrifice these families will make to show their love for the missionaries!
