10/28/2024 - Week 67 - Zone Conference and Good Work
Howdy howdy mis queridos! Klk! Todo hebi?
This week has been pretty insane to say the least! A ton happened, but for the sake of time, I'm only going to focus on the important (and funny) parts:
- We found 2 new part member families in our area that haven't been contacted recently and we are attempting to get them excited to come to church so we can start making them a focus of our work!
- Since I got put into a trio, the two (quite massive) teaching pools we've been working with got combined so we have a ton of people we're working with and they were quite happy to receive 2 friends on date from the ET!
- We started working with a really cool part of the Hernandez family (massive family of Mexicans that are about 5% -- used to be more like 2% before I got here -- members and all live around here!) and they are super down for Baptism and have very few things in their path before their baptism will happen! Luckily, they have 2 kids who are of baptism age right now! We have a schedule for our lessons, they love coming to church and reading the scriptures, and we put them all on date for December 7th!
- We had Elder Daines – a member of our Area Presidency who also happens to look like Two-Face from The Dark Night – come to our mission for a mission tour! Him and his wife bestowed their wisdom and we just had a grand old time time them. They focused a lot on joy and finding joy in the Gospel (I guess we just depressed here in the OCM). They also started throwing out some statistics on activity rate in the church for Returned Missionaries from our Area and let's just say it's a very high percentage for those who get married in the temple and have kids. Needless to say, Sister Daines mentioned about 5 times how we need to go home and get married in the temple (so if you have any referrals for once I get home, send me an email............ just kidding!)
- We ate tacos with one of the workers at the tienda where we do service every week and we had some amazing carne asada tacos and got to know him better! He's a super chill Chapín and he speaks Q'eqchi' (yes that's how it's spelled), but we already knew that. We get into the house and see one of the female workers at the restaurant that's attached to the tienda and turns out they're married and have a kid! We've most definitely seen these guys on the same day at the same restaurant at different times, but never knew they were married! We found out that we were the first Gringos to be welcomed into their apartment and they both called their parents to show them.... us, I guess? It was a good time and the food was amazing!
- At church yesterday we had 12 of our friends come and a good portion stayed for the 2nd hour which was super good! I'm very excited for the work that's going on in this area right now!
Spiritual thought:
D&C 38:7
"But behold, verily, verily, I say unto you that mine eyes are upon you. I am in your midst and ye cannot see me;"
I love this reminder from the Lord that he is never far away and that he is perfectly aware of what is going on in our lives. He is so ready and willing to help us if we will take the time to find him and plead for his help! Remember that he is always by your side if you will let him be there!
Chao!
