10/7/2024 - Week 64 - General Conference (but in Spanish [But actually in English])
This week was a bit of a slower one, so I don't have a whole ton to report, but I'll let you know what did happen.
We are teaching 3 friends that live pretty far from the church and we had another lesson with them this week and we went over the 10 commandments and the 2 great commandments (not a whole ton of excitement there) but we also found out that one of them has been reading the Book of Mormon every night and he was already at 1 Nephi 17, so he had read 17 chapters in about a week and a half max. Pretty incredible for that to happen because for a lot of people its like trying to force-feed a child broccoli when it comes to reading the Scriptures. They also all were able to watch General Conference this weekend!
I was pretty sick for 2 days this week, but we still went out and grinded (because momma ain't raised no wimp) and I got a new phone during that time because my phone decided it wanted to stop working altogether.
We are living as poor people this week because I have shown a complete and utter lack of ability to budget properly... so we're in the trenches this week before we get more funds. (We will be alright, we have a good stock, it's just gonna be tighter than necessary)
I taught English Class again this week and one of the families that has come a few times asked me if they could come to church, so of course I said yes and told them about General Conference this week and they watched it together as a family! (My English class was also good apparently, they're all learning how to pronounce what we learn so that's at least a start right?)
Now we get to the good stuff. General Conference! It was so good (like always) and we were invited to watch the Sunday sessions with the Stake President's family in the Stake Center! They also fed us lunch in-between sessions which is so awesome! (I also got one of the high council room chairs for my personal chair in the apartment now)
INSIGHTS:
I think Elder Andersen's talk really set the stage for the entire conference perfectly. I loved how he talked about the bond between Faith, Hope, Charity, and Joy. As we exercise faith, we have a Hope in Christ, which will lead us to desire to act how He acted and love like He loved (aka Charity), and as we desire this Charity, it fills us with Joy as we come to understand Christ's perfect Charity for us and everyone else. But wait, it gets better! As we continue to grow our Faith in Jesus Christ through the Gospel, every other one will grow as well! What a miracle that is!
I also wanted to talk about Elder Kearon's talk as well, because it is probably my favorite from all of the sessions. His message was so simple, yet so powerful. We are a church of Joy. What we teach brings Joy. As we share our joy with others, they will feel of the same joy we do. We should act in such a way that shows the joyful state of our church in and outside of our Sunday meetings, we should show joy as we actively live the Gospel every day and stand as a lower light leading to the Light of the World -- Jesus Christ!
If you didn't watch conference at all, or missed a session, go and find what you missed. The answers to our questions reside in the prophetic paragraphs shared over this last weekend.
Peace out,
Elder Hansen
