5/6/2024 - Week 42 - The Elect

This is probably gonna be a shorter email cuz not too much happened this week... like at all.

Tuesday was the only really crazy day. We met a lady who had been taught previously and we talked to her outside of her house and she was just like "I've been to your church before... it was good... there isn't one here tho... you should buy the lot right over there thats going to auction... I'll give you guys 5000 $ for a down payment if your church can get me my money back soon." We explained to her that we don't really do that part of the church work and it would take a lot more than the 30 minutes before the auction started to get approval (plus we would never get approval because we have 0 active members in the town she lives in). It was a super weird interaction and I'm still not convinced she wasn't high on weed. Anyways, after that we went up to Tipp City to talk to our new friend Jamie. Jamie is a cool old Air Force vet and we had a decent (and very political on his half) conversation. The message wasn't getting through and we just kept getting on tangents until I finally forced him to let us call one of our members (who is an absolute legend) and the lesson was finally able to start because our member really got through to him. All in all, the lesson was like 2 hours long and we were hustling to get back home before our curfew, but we were able to explain the Restoration of the Gospel and clear up his confusions and inaccuracies from what he had thought it was about. Really cool guy.

Wednesday didn't have much other than we helped the folks at the Food Pantry to move a lot of their stock into the places they needed them because the seriously lack manpower over there. We were glad to help them out of course!

Thursday we had Zone Conference which was amazing as usual. It was all focused on the beauty of Baptism and how we need to focus our efforts on our own Baptismal covenant (promise) and helping others to be worthy and have a desire to be baptized themselves (ya know, our entire purpose as missionaries).

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY WERE THE WORST. STUCK INSIDE BECAUSE COMP WAS SICK. I WENT CRAZY.

Anyways. Sunday. Blessed Sunday. Elder Card was feeling better so we went to church and had an amazing fast Sunday and gospel doctrine class afterwards. We went all over our area trying our darndest to find elect/prepared people with very little luck. For some reason, all of the people are out of town because school just ended or something like that? IDK, but it was frustrating because the biggest town in our area (roughly the size of Emmett, ID. So tiny) was practically a ghost town. It was supa frustrating, but it is what it is. We had an amazing Cinco de Mayo taco bar with our friends in the ward, the Harris Fam. They're awesome and funny as always.

Coolest part of this week is that they recently announced the size of the new Cincinnati Temple. Now you might be thinking, Parker, thats not that cool... well it is to me 😟
The Cincinnati Temple is going to be roughly 30,000 sqft. Now that's not super big, but for comparison, the Columbus temple is about 11,000 sqft (take that Elder Merrill) and the Cleveland temple that is being constructed (soon I think?) is only 9,000 sqft. So this will be the biggest temple in the Region by a decent bit (largest temple in Ohio for sure). I just like that visual because it means that in the Cincinnati Mission, the Lord has big things planned (and thats super exciting!)

Anyways, thats all I got for you this week.
Send me an email if you wanna talk, I got all the time in the world.

Peace out,
Elder Hansen
