6/17/2024 - Week 48 -
What's good Y'all?
This week has been an absolute banger! We've been running around from place to place just having a grand ol' time.
On Monday, we played some 3v3 half court basketball at the park and we absolutely smoked some random 20 year Olds (I had 3 dunks which made me feel real good -- the hoop was 9.5 ft don't worry) and then I went on to play the best round of Disc Golf I've ever had! We also tried to have a lesson with Yimison, a guy we met last week, but it turns out he is a wannabe pastor and wants to meet with us to preach the Word better? Idk π€·♂️. Not exactly what our purpose is, but that's all good. My Companion also had to do a baptism interview at 9 pm π and it went for 50ish minutes because the guy getting interviewed was a huge talker.
Tuesday was a little more relaxed though. My companion went to MLC and left me with our district leader and his comp for the day. We had a fire lesson with their 9 year old friend they've been teaching and his family. They also fed us Papa John's pizza and a spicy beef soup that was fantastic, but a weird combo. Their friend just got interviewed and will be baptized next Saturday. ππππππ
I'm giving up on the day by day thing. I just decided. Here's the rest of the week summarized by importance!
•Abel, friend of the other Elders in our Branch, got baptized on Saturday
• several people we started teaching really opened up to us and helped us to know how best to bless their lives with the Gospel. We have really been seeing miracles with these people! People can really find true and lasting peace, even after addiction and past trauma
• We had a lot of members invite us over for meals and a message which is always good to have that opportunity to help them out (and get some amazing food at the same time)
• We had our friend Angel come to church again this Sunday even though he wasn't feeling great
• Like all good Elders do, we had a Taco eating competition after service and we ordered so many tacos each that the cook said he'd pay for our meal if we ate all of then (which we did and he paid like the GOAT he is)
• we helped a guy with some legal forms for his new job because he doesn't read English... but we're teaching him now so that's cool.
• We invited a gringo to church (cuz why not) and he told us that other missionaries had already invited him today and that even though he's not religious, he had been really going through it and had prayed for a sign to know if God was there and he told us that us inviting him genuinely saved his life (he was considering ending it all). It was an amazing experience and I'm doing an awful job of explaining it.
All in all, it's been an amazing week!
Happy Fathers day to everyone too! Dad's truly are special people and I'm glad to have the amazing Father's in my life that I do (ofc my dad is no. 1 π)
Proverbs 3:12
"For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth."
I'm so glad that my dad was able to lovingly guide me through my life to learn how to be who I am today! Without his wise counsel and example, I don't know where I would be right now.
Thank you to all you great dads out there! Keep on doing the great work you do! You have the power to guide your children in the way that they should live, which is a big responsibility. But as a wise man once said "with great power, comes great responsibility." You can do it!
(The rest of you non-dads are pretty cool too I guess)
Love you all!
Elder Parker Hansen
