9/30/2024 - Week 63 - Hurricanes in Ohio
Welp, some stuff actually happened this week.
The crowning event of this week is that we had some major windstorms here from the hurricane and it blew over a massive tree that took down the power lines that give the church power. So for our one day of the year where we have a Latino party, we were out of power at the church 🫠 It also didn't get fixed by Sunday, so we had a Fast and Testimony meeting in the dark
Luckily, we had a record setting turnout and we ran out of food! Which is crazy because latinos always bring a ton of food. We also had some traditional dances which were amazing!
Our interviews with President Rasmussen were this week too, but he ran out of time for my interview on the day we had District Council so we had to do a zoom call a day later on Thursday.
We're currently teaching some pretty cool people! We finally were able to have a lesson with Angel! He's been coming to church for over 3 years, but we were able to have a lesson with him on Sunday and he told us that he had a change in schedule at work and can meet with us more throughout the week and that he wants to be baptized in November or December of this year! We also had a lesson with Eva and she's still going strong on trying to cut out coffee and will be baptized real soon!
We also have transfers this week, so I have no idea if I'll be staying here for a 4th transfer or if I'll be moving yet again!
We stopped by our member Hermano Diaz on Friday after eating some Taco Bell (clasico) and he told us to come in, so we sat down and he offered us Sopes (basically the connection between a taco and those angel food cake cups) but then he goes over and grabs some ramen (apparently he meant Sopas not Sopes) and he also gave me the spiciest pepper in the world, pretty sure it nearly killed me (he definitely ate one too and had no problems with it, I'm just weak).
We got cake from our new members, the Torres family! It wasn't for any specific reason, we just stopped by, they happened to be making a cake, and they gave us some!
We went to the 1st ever Hamilton, OH Latino Festival and it was incredibly underwhelming (I also got bashed there). I hope they do it again next year.
I had the privilege of teaching our English Class this week, and it was apparently pretty good!
We had a dinner with our new member Yenni and our new member Ervin moved to Columbus ☹️
More detailed email next week. Sorry y'all.
